Privacy Notice
This notice explains how Slightly Wet processes personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
1. Responsible party and information officer
The responsible party is Slightly Wet. Our information officer can be reached at slightywet@gmail.com. Please use this address for any privacy request or complaint.
2. What we collect
- Account information: your email address, password (stored by our authentication provider in hashed form) and the dates and versions of the terms and privacy notice you accepted.
- Profile content (advertisers): display name, headline, description, services, age, optional race, province and suburb, rates, optional phone number and photos. This information is published on the site once you publish your profile.
- Ratings, loves and comments: your star ratings and the profiles you love (tap the heart on). Anyone can rate or love without an account: these are linked to an anonymous session identifier, or to your account if you are signed in, and are never shown with your name. Comments are for members only and include the name you choose to show with a comment.
- Reports: the reason and details you give, and an anonymous session identifier. Reporters are not identified to advertisers.
- Device storage: your browser stores your age confirmation (for 30 days) and your saved favourites. Your favourites list stays on your device. Tapping the heart also records an anonymous love for that profile, as described above, which counts towards its public love total.
- Technical data: standard server and security logs such as IP address, browser type and request times, kept by our hosting providers.
3. Special personal information
Some profile information may reveal special personal information as defined in POPIA, such as information about a person's sex life, or race. We process this information only because the advertiser chooses to publish it and gives explicit consent when publishing their profile (section 27(1)(a) of POPIA). Race is always optional. An advertiser can edit or remove this information, or delete their profile, at any time.
4. Why we process it
- To run the directory and publish advertisers' profiles.
- To confirm that every advertiser is an adult advertising themselves, and to prevent exploitation.
- To manage member accounts, ratings and comments.
- To investigate reports, enforce our terms and cooperate with law enforcement where required by law.
- To keep the service secure and working properly.
Our lawful bases are your consent, the performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interest in operating a safe service, and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Sharing
We do not sell personal information. Published profile content is public by design. We share information with our operators (service providers) and, where the law requires or a child or person may be at risk, with the South African Police Service and other authorities.
6. Operators and cross-border transfers
We use Google Firebase and Google Cloud (authentication, database, file storage, hosting and email delivery). Our database and server functions are hosted in Google Cloud's Johannesburg region, but some services, such as authentication, file storage, website hosting and email, may process data outside South Africa, including in the European Union and the United States. These transfers are made under section 72 of POPIA, on the basis that the recipient is bound by binding agreements and data protection terms that provide an adequate level of protection, and where needed with your consent.
7. How long we keep it
- Profiles: until the advertiser deletes them or we remove them.
- Accounts, ratings, loves and comments: until you delete them or close your account.
- Reports and moderation records: for as long as needed to protect people and meet legal obligations, and longer where they relate to suspected harm to a child or a crime.
8. Security
We use access controls, encrypted connections and strict database security rules so that private information, such as your email address, is never publicly readable.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold your personal information and request access to it;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- object to processing on reasonable grounds, and withdraw consent at any time;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
To exercise these rights, email slightywet@gmail.com. We may need to confirm your identity first.
10. Cookies and local storage
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site uses browser local storage for your age confirmation and favourites, and our authentication provider stores a session token when you sign in, rate, love or report content. You can clear these at any time in your browser settings.
11. Children
Slightly Wet is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child is on the site, please report it immediately.
12. Changes
We may update this notice. The version date above shows when it last changed.
